Before1787, Welsh did not have a real reason to leave the country, there was plenty of space for them, plenty of jobs, and everything was the way they wanted it. During that time, England was keeping close track of Wales, and only 123 welsh were registered to leave for America. In 1790, 120,000 people came into America via Ellis island. In 1820, only 2,410 people came through Ellis Island. in the 1790's, their were less jobs, less land bcause of more people living. because of more people, alot of Natural resorces were exhuasted. their was also alot of religeous and politcal debate. They saw America as the golden land, free from England, free to think whatever they wanted, and say it.their was also more land and food to support people, more jobs and oppertunities. When the Welsh came over to America, they stuck to what they had done when they were in Wales; they farmed and mined. They also tended to stick to places that felt like their homeland, such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maine, Utah, and Virginia. Now today, Many people in America are from welsh decent.
